September 26, 2009 and October 2, 2009 – These dates are 2 of the most unforgettable dates for the entire
Many of them had been stuck in their houses for more than a day without any food, some even climbed into their roofs just to save themselves from the rising flood that already entered their houses. Vehicles were scattered all over the road and even floating in it. The roads seem like a river or even like an ocean due to the overflowing water and damaged houses in it. But worst scenarios even came. Some drowned and were carried away because of the current and flash flood leading them to death.
Rescuers came all over the country together with their rubber boats, dump trucks, and helicopters. They all tend to manage in saving the lives of every Filipino people even if it also became difficult for them to rescue lives because of the road, flood and heavy rain hindrances. They had sacrificed their own lives just to save everyone who needs help.
These dates seemed like it was already the end of the world. But as the saying goes, “Good things still come out no matter how difficult the situation is.” And this was proven when all of us Filipinos tend to helped each other during these horrible days. Even the artists that we only see in various teleseryes and other TV shows offered help to their fellowmen who needs help. Different foundations and companies also donated relief goods, clothing, and other basic needs for all the people who were affected by these typhoons. Each one of us offered help in the best way that we can do. It only showed that bayanihan is still applied by us Filipinos.
It’s just sad to think about the thought that no matter how everybody risked their lives just to save everyone who is in need of help, there are still some people out there who keep on saying bad things and blaming this tragedy to the people itself. What’s worst is that, some of these people are also our kababayans – What popped out in your mind guys that you keep on cursing and blaming this tragedy and traumatic experiences to our country and fellowmen? Why don’t you just shut up if you don’t have anything good to say and instead, just pray for the good of all these people who were affected by these typhoons?
As I look back during these tragic and traumatic days in the lives of our fellowmen, I had realized how fortunate and thankful I am that my family was not affected of these typhoons (well, sad to say except for my relatives in Cagayan).
At this point of time, even if I’m not one of those who suffered in these typhoons, I still have this kind of heavy luggage in my heart – something that I think will take much more time to heal.
But one thing that made me stronger in my current struggles in life is the bravery and courage of all the rescuers who risked their lives just to save all the people affected by these typhoons. And much more is the fighting spirit that all the affected people had exerted. Even if they stayed in their roofs for more than a day without food and despite of the continuous rain, they still managed to hold on, praying and hoping that there would be rescuers to save them.
Seeing these things, I told myself that what I am experiencing right now is not as heavy and difficult as these people are experiencing. Most of them lost their loved ones, their homes and the properties that they had worked for just to earn it.
My heart is struggling really hard right now. Everyday, I feel like the world has turned against me. I feel like numb and nowhere to go. But seeing these people coping up and standing again on their own - seeing this kind of courage in them to go on and move on with their lives without losing any hope that they will be able to face the world again makes me stronger to face all my fears and worries in life and most of all in bringing back all those broken pieces of my heart.
This kind of experiences in our lives teaches us to hold on more to the Lord God Almighty and to strengthen our faith in Him.
We must always remember that “Everything has a reason why it’s happening and that God will not give us a trial that we can never surpass. No matter how difficult it is, God will never forsake us nor leave us alone. We just have to hold on in Him. He just wants us to learn from these trials so that we may be able to face the future with much strength and courage.”
While there is life, there is always hope….
